FAQ
We’ve answered some of the most common questions about our refrigeration, air conditioning and mechanical services. This section provides clear, practical information to help you better understand our approach, processes and the solutions we deliver.
GENERAL
Who are Coretemp Refrigeration?
Coretemp Refrigeration is an engineer-led refrigeration and air conditioning contractor run by three directors with over 90 years of combined industry experience. We operate with family values, honest advice, and practical solutions — without corporate red tape.
What areas do you cover?
We are based in Huntingdon and cover East Anglia including Suffolk, Essex and surrounding counties. For specialist refrigeration and air conditioning projects, we can operate further afield.
Are you fully qualified and insured?
Yes. All our engineers are F-Gas certified and hold City & Guilds Level 3 qualifications in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, including significant electrical competency. We carry full public liability insurance and provide full compliance documentation where required.
Do you offer 24/7 emergency call-out?
Yes. We understand that refrigeration and air conditioning breakdowns cannot wait. We provide emergency response support for commercial clients to minimise downtime and protect stock.
Refrigeration
What refrigeration systems do you work on?
We install, maintain and repair:
- Cold rooms and freezer rooms
- Cellar cooling systems
- Display cabinets
- Commercial fridges and freezers
- Pack systems and larger plant
- A2L & CO2 systems
How quickly can you respond to a breakdown?
We prioritise emergency refrigeration faults, particularly where stock loss is a risk. Response times depend on location and workload, but urgent cases are treated as a priority.
Can you maintain systems installed by another contractor?
Yes. We regularly take over maintenance of existing systems and provide honest assessments, and structured improvement plans where needed.
How often should refrigeration be serviced?
Most commercial refrigeration systems require bi-annual maintenance to remain efficient and compliant.
Air Conditioning
What types of air conditioning systems do you install?
We install, both commercially and for domestic customers:
- Split and multi-split systems
- VRF/VRV systems
- Ducted systems
- Heat pump air conditioning systems
We design each system based on the space, usage and long-term efficiency requirements.
Can air conditioning provide heating as well?
Yes. Modern air conditioning systems are highly efficient heat pumps, providing both cooling and heating — often at a lower running cost than traditional electric heating.
How often should air conditioning be serviced?
Most commercial and domestic systems should be serviced at least once or twice per year, depending on usage. Regular servicing improves efficiency, reduces breakdown risk and ensures F-Gas compliance
How long does installation take?
A single split system can often be installed within one day. Larger commercial or multi-room systems vary depending on scope and complexity.
MAINTENANCE & COMPLIANCE
Do you offer Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) contracts?
Yes. Our PPM contracts are designed to:
- Reduce breakdowns
- Improve energy efficiency
- Ensure F-Gas compliance
- Extend equipment lifespan
We tailor maintenance schedules to suit each client’s operation.
Do you provide compliance documentation?
Yes. We provide service records, F-Gas leak testing documentation, and maintenance reports suitable for audits and insurance requirements.
A2L & FUTURE REFRIGERANTS
What is the A2L refrigerant transition?
The UK is transitioning towards lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerants, including A2L refrigerants. These gases have lower environmental impact and are becoming standard in new equipment.
Are you qualified to work on A2L and CO2 systems?
Yes. We stay ahead of industry changes and ensure our engineers are trained and prepared for A2L and CO2 systems, allowing clients to invest confidently in future-proof solutions.
Will my current system become obsolete?
Not immediately. Existing systems can continue to be serviced and maintained for many years; however, ongoing HFC phase down regulations are reducing the availability of higher GWP refrigerants. As supply becomes more restricted, businesses may experience increased refrigerant costs, longer lead times, and reduced availability of certain refrigerants in the future. While this does not mean existing equipment will suddenly become unusable, it is sensible to consider refrigerant availability, future running costs, and long-term compliance when planning maintenance budgets, major repairs, or system replacement strategies.
PRICING & PROCESS
Do you provide free quotations?
Yes. We offer site surveys and transparent quotations with clear scope and no hidden extras.
Are there hidden costs?
No. We operate with honesty and integrity. All costs are discussed clearly before work begins.
What happens after I contact Coretemp?
Once you contact us, we will discuss your requirements and arrange a site survey if required. We take the time to understand your application, operating requirements and any future considerations before recommending a solution. Following the survey, we provide a clear, detailed quotation outlining the proposed scope of works.
Do you carry out site surveys before providing a quotation?
Yes. For most projects, we carry out a site survey to assess the installation environment, equipment requirements and any site-specific considerations. This allows us to provide accurate recommendations and avoid unexpected costs later in the project.
Who designs your systems?
All of our refrigeration and air conditioning systems are designed in-house by our experienced team. This enables us to develop solutions that are tailored to the application, maximise energy efficiency and ensure compliance with current industry regulations.
How do you manage installations?
Our projects are carefully planned to minimise disruption to your business or property. We coordinate deliveries, installation activities, commissioning and handover to ensure works are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
What happens once the installation is complete?
Following installation, all systems are fully tested and commissioned to ensure they are operating as intended. We provide the relevant commissioning documentation, demonstrate system operation where required, and answer any questions to ensure you are confident using your new equipment.
Do you provide ongoing support after installation?
Yes. We offer planned preventative maintenance, servicing and breakdown support to help keep your systems operating efficiently throughout their lifespan. Our aim is to build long-term relationships with our clients and provide support long after the installation is complete.
OUR ENGINEERS
Are your engineers subcontractors?
No. Our engineers are directly employed and trained to our standards. This ensures consistent workmanship and accountability.
What qualifications do your engineers hold?
Our team holds:
- City & Guilds Level 3 Refrigeration & Air Conditioning
- F-Gas Certification
- Electrical competency including three-phase systems
We invest in ongoing training to remain at the forefront of industry changes.
